Town's library to launch new job club | Business Tutorials ...

TOTNES Library will launch an innovative new project to support unemployed local people back to work next week.

The Work Club is a new monthly event aimed at helping out of work residents get back into employment, and support those looking for their first job. the first session will be held on Tuesday July 26 at 10am until 12 noon.

The sessions, run in partnership with Careers South West and the Totnes Rotary Club, will include help and advice on CV writing, assistance with online application forms as well as providing computer access in order to search for vacancies and completing online tutorials. it will also give job hunters the chance to meet others looking for work, build new contacts and share experiences.

Careers guidance sessions from Careers South West advisors will be available by prior appointment.

Devon County Councillor William Mumford, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Economy, Enterprise and Employment said: ?In challenging times like these job clubs can really help those looking for work by offering inspiration, advice and networking opportunities.

?Being out of work can often feel quite isolating, so the work club is a great way to not only get help and advice on the best route back into employment, but also provide social contact with people in the same situation. they can also help boost the local economy as they provide local businesses with access to job seekers too.?

Councillor Roger Croad, Devon County Council Cabinet Member with responsibility for the library service, said:?Our libraries are not just about lending books. this is just one example of how we are using our buildings to support local communities, demonstrating benefits to the individual and cost savings to the public purse.

?Running these sessions in partnership with other organisations mean participants can access a range of information for lots of different sources. Our library staff are on hand to provide one to one IT support, while representatives from local businesses and organisations will be able to share their wealth of employment knowledge and business experience.

?I would encourage anyone who is looking for work, whether it?s a change in career or the first step on the ladder, to come along and see what help and advice is available.?
