As we reported earlier the college football world has been rocked by news that Notre Dame star linebacker Manti Te?o and his story of love with a Leukemia stricken girlfriend named??Lennay Kekua was a complete hoax according to reports from Deadspin. ?
The questions now are how did this happen and why. According to the reports Lennay was a complete hoax and they young lady in the photo?s that so many had fallen in love with is alive and well and named Reba to protect her identity.
Notre Dame has released a statement claiming that Te?o and his family notified them on December 26 that Manti had indeed been the victim of a hoax per the Huffington Post.
On Dec. 26, Notre Dame coaches were informed by Manti Te?o and his parents that Manti had been the victim of what appears to be a hoax in which someone using the fictitious name Lennay Kekua apparently ingratiated herself with Manti and then conspired with others to lead him to believe she had tragically died of leukemia. The University immediately initiated an investigation to assist Manti and his family in discovering the motive for and nature of this hoax. While the proper authorities will continue to investigate this troubling matter, this appears to be, at a minimum, a sad and very cruel deception to entertain its perpetrators.
That excuse could be all well in good accept for some the statements Te?o has made in the past, such as that he and his father met the young lady, and the stories he?s shared such as the one in the audio with Jim Rome of CBS Sports where he openly expresses his grief over losing her and all the time they shared together.
It truly will be interesting to see how this all plays out.
