William Woods University Theatre Department will hold open auditions for the musical ?9 to 5? at 7 p.m. Aug. 27 and 28 in Cutlip Auditorium. All interested community members, high school students, William Woods University and Westminster College students, faculty and staff are invited to try out for the cast. There are no children?s roles available for this show.

No casting preferences will be shown, and no one will get first choice of roles. There are 13 principal roles available, plus a small-size singing and dancing ensemble. To be considered for a role, a person must be available to attend the auditions on both Aug. 27 and 28 and for the callbacks on Aug. 29.

A 30-45 second comic monologue and 16 bars of any up-tempo tune from a pop/modern musical, showcasing voice, energy and acting, are required. Those interested in the role of Doralee should prepare 16 bars of an up-tempo country song.

Bring sheet music with music cuts marked and music taped together. Accompaniment will be provided, as well as a CD player. Live accompaniment is preferred; no a capella singing.

Clothes should allow freedom of movement without creating concern for modesty and decorum. Appropriate shoes, such as character/jazz shoes or hard soled shoes, are suggested.

On the first night of auditions, each actor or actress will present a monologue and song. Then everyone will learn music from the show. The show music will be sung in groups first and then individually. The choreographer will teach a combination of dance steps and movements to perform, first in a group and then in smaller groups. Everyone must dance and move.

The second night of auditions, actors will be asked to sing specific music from the show and to read specific scenes at the director?s discretion.

At the conclusion of the auditions, a final callback list will be posted, if necessary, and a final call back audition, if needed, will be held at 7 p.m. Aug. 29. At the conclusion of that callback session, a cast list will be posted. Rehearsals will start at 7 p.m. Aug. 30.
