Hurricane Hilary still churning up dangerous surf (AP)

MIAMI ? Powerful Hurricane Hilary is moving away from Mexico but is still churning up dangerous surf in the Pacific.

Hilary was a Category 4 storm late Saturday afternoon, with maximum sustained winds near 135 mph (217 kph). It was 220 miles (354 kilometers) southwest of Manzanillo, Mexico and moving west at 9 mph (14 kph).

The hurricane is not forecast to make landfall, but the U.S. National Hurricane Center says Mexico's southwestern coast has been affected by wind, rain and heavy surf from Hilary.

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Ophelia was swirling in the Atlantic, with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph (72 kph). It was 295 miles (475 kilometers) east of the Leeward Islands, though it appeared to be taking a turn to the northwest away from the U.S. mainland.
