Whether we like it or not summer is winding down, and that means tough decisions are ahead. Did you have a summer fling that got serious or maybe your fresh out of high school with a boyfriend and don?t know if you?d like to try the long distance relationship. This article is meant to help figure if it?s worth a try and give advice for those brave enough to give it a shot!

If you?re wondering how I could possibly give advice on this topic it?s because I am currently in a long distance relationship. I?ll be a sophomore this coming year, and even though it?s hard my boyfriend and I will once again be long distance in the fall. Everyone out there that thinks it can?t work is wrong?and I?m proof!

My boyfriend and I oovooing while I was away at college

1.? Listen to your heart- I know it?s clich? but it?s the truth. Ask yourself if you can imagine coming home on the weekends without seeing your other half. Another thing you have to ask yourself ?is it worth it?? These questions will help you really figure out if long distance is something that could work for you.

2.? Take a good, honest look at your relationship- If you?re fighting constantly, breaking up every other day or have jealously problems chances are a long distance relationship will fail once your away. Save yourself the heartache and end things now. If you?re communication skills are good, and your connection with each other is strong chances are things could work out.

3. Talk to your partner- Deciding to take on a long distance relationship is challenging and both people need to be 100% committed to making it work! Talk honestly and openly about your fears to make sure your both on the same page.?

4. Make a plan- Before leaving make a plan for visits, skypes or phone dates. Before I left my boyfriend and I decided to try and see each other at least twice a month. It was great having certain weekends to look forward to, and it made getting through all the school work a lot easier. The megabus has cheap travel from cities and is a good thing to look into (www.megabus.com ). Also remember that skype and oovoo are free! Download which ever you prefer and try to use it once a week.

The megabus is great, cheap way to travel!

5. Don?t let other people get you down- I know from experience that other people will try and tell you that a long distance relationship doesn?t work but it is NOT TRUE! Believe it or not there is a good number of college students are in long distance relationships that are faithful and committed and you can be one of them. Just remember that if you have confidence in your relationship no one can get you down.

Long distance relationships are not for the faint of heart. They are extremely challenging and difficult, but very worth it. If you truly love and care for the person it won?t matter that you?re not with each other every day. One website that helped me is http://www.lovingfromadistance.com/. There are tips, advice, and other people to talk to that are going through the same thing. They also have bracelets that say ?Love Knows No Distance? that can be ordered for you and your other half to share. My boyfriend and I got them and we never take them off. Keep it in your mind that it?s possible to have a loving, truthful long distance relationship as long as you?re both willing to work at it!
