Spa getaways for $100 or less | Living On The Cheap

? ?May 17, 2012 ?Posted by Lillian Africano?Health, Hot Deals

While a luxurious spa vacation can be pricy, it?s possible to enjoy a one-day getaway with all the spa amenities at a top resort for about $100. How? Simple.

Many resorts allow non-guests to enjoy everything their spas have to offer ? steam, sauna, Jacuzzi, pool, fitness area, etc. ? when they book a single treatment. While treatment prices at the most luxurious resorts are high, you can generally find something ? whether it be a special pedicure or manicure, mini-massage or mini-facial, that will get you into these tranquil oases. Once you?re there, you can hang out for as long as you like in the robe and slippers that are provided and refresh yourself with the complimentary beverages in the relaxation rooms or order a spa lunch (extra).

Here is a sample of the kind of getaway currently available:

  • The Grand Del Mar, high in the hills above San Diego, is a magnificent Mediterranean-style resort with a spa that is 21,000 square feet of sheer luxury. Book a treatment and you have access to valet parking, the adults-only Relaxation Pool, the Fitness Center, indoor whirlpools, wet and dry saunas and the Relaxation Lounges with fireplaces (separate for men and women), signature teas, muffins and handcrafted chocolates. Call 858-314-2020 to book a 30-minute Herbal Salt Scrub, a Manual Lymph Drainage or a luxurious Spa Pedicure that includes an herbal extract footbath, exfoliation, a sweet herb oil massage and aromatic compresses to the neck and shoulders; all these treatments are $100, plus tip.
  • Another top luxury destination is the Four Seasons Baltimore, on the city?s Harbor East. It?s a place to please the senses, with drop-dead views of the harbor in addition to a spacious and very posh spa. As expected, treatments here aren?t cheap, but you can book a 25-minute Salt and Oil Scrub for $75 or a 50-minute Advanced Manicure ($85), which includes a relaxing massage, a personalized mask and paraffin wax as well as the usual manicure techniques. Once you?re a guest here, you can sip refreshing brews in the sumptuous Tea Lounge and cleanse and revitalize in the Lifestyle Shower (choice of Body Jets, Tropical Rain and Arctic Mist). Steam away your aches and pains in the mosaic-clad Aroma Steam Room, whre the steam is suffused with aromatherapy oils. Or increase circulation and relieve aching muscles and joints by pouring water on exposed hot rocks in the Finnish Rock Sauna. In between all that heat, cool your body at the Ice Fountain. And just lounge or nap in one of the spa?s waterfront relaxation rooms.
  • Almost all resort spas have treatments for men; some have separate lounges as well. At the award-winning Serenity by the Sea Spa at the beachfront Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort & Spa in the Florida Panhandle, a man can start his spa experience with a complimentary workout at the fitness center, which has Precor equipment, cardio machines with flat-screen televisions and headsets. Next, a refreshing shower and a relaxing soak in the cascading whirlpool. There?s a sauna and a steam room, as well as juices and snacks in the separate lounge area. Treatment choices include a 50-minute Gentleman?s Facial for $95. Local residents living in Walton, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa and Escambia Counties receive 15% off all spa services at Serenity by the Sea.
  • At Auberge Del Mar, in the charming village of Del Mar, California, there?s a gorgeous pool overlooking the Pacific, a private landscaped footpath to the beach and a whirlpool spa and lap pool. Have a signature 80-minute manicure/pedicure here for $110, and it will start with a warm bath of organic ginger, followed by an exfoliating scrub with organic ginger essential oil. Next, a Thai-inspired massage and a finish of vitamin-enriched moisturizer infused with warming wild-crafted Indonesian ginger oil to hydrate and sooth. If a meal is desired, there?s light fare at the casual Bleu Bar & Waterfall Terrace.
  • In Newport, Rhode Island, SpaTerre at the Hotel Viking is offering a 20% discount on any 50-minute service, available Monday through Thursday, through May 24. A 50-minute Balinese massage at $125 gets a 20% discount; so does the spa?s signature facial. A pool and Jacuzzi are adjacent to the spa; the fitness center is adjacent to the pool and offers treadmills, Stairmasters, free weights, elliptical trainers and a Cybex weight training system.
  • Four Seasons Hotel Austin offers a Spa Day Pass to outside guests for $30 per person. Available Monday through Friday, the pass includes access to The Spa?s locker rooms, eucalyptus steam rooms, Relaxation Lounge and Fitness Center, as well as the hotel?s salt-water pool. This is a terrific deal, as you don?t even have to book a treatment to have a spa getaway. However, a limited number of passes are available each day; to purchase, call The Spa at 512-685-8160. If you?d like a treatment under the $100 target, there?s the 25-minute Rapid Results facial at $80 or the 25-minute Nature?s Break massage, also at $80.
  • ?Up North? in Michigan, anyone can enjoy all the amenities of the 7,000-square-foot Spa Grand Traverse for the price of a treatment. That includes the sauna, mineral pools and the 100,000-square-foot health club. The 50-minute Spa Grand Traverse Customized Facial is $99; the Repair and Restore Men?s Facial and the Teen Clean Facial are also $99. Check in an hour or two early and join a Zumba or gentle yoga class. Swim a few laps in the mineral pools and then rest in the dry sauna to loosen muscles. Unwind in the Spa lounge and relaxation room with a favorite book and cup of tea.
  • In Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, The Spa at the RiverStone Resort has a bunch of treatments at well under the $100 mark. Facials, for men and women, start at $65; body treatments start at $80. The spa here is really a day spa, but the condo resort has a pool and a lovely setting in the scenic Smoky Mountains.
  • All of Alabama?s PCH Resort Spas resorts allow non-guests access when they book a treatment.? For example, at the Grand Hotel Marriott Resort, Golf Club & Spa in Point Clear, Alabama, the 20,000-square-foot spa overlooks the marina and has an indoor pool, steam and sauna rooms, a whirlpool, a state-of-the-art fitness center and Movement Studio and separate lounges for men and women. The 50-minute treatments here start at about $115, but you can get a 20-minute Express Facial for $70 and use the facilities for as long as you like.
  • An interesting offer for anyone who lives in Alabama is the Resort Collection Spa Trail Card at $40. That gets you spa savings all year and a $20 gift card (by mail) when you buy the card. If you use it in all five Resort Collection Spas within a year, you get a free treatment of your choice.

FINAL TIP: To find the perfect spa getaway in your area, check out the top resorts and ask if they allow non-guests. Also ask if they have special deals for local residents; many do. Also keep your eyes on deal-of-the-day offerings. Half-price spa treatments are a common deal.
