Jodhpur is the second largest city in Rajasthan. It was formerly the princely state and capital city of the Kingdom or Marwar. It is one of the major tourist destinations in Rajasthan. There are many palaces, forts, and temples set in the stark landscape of Thar Desert. It is also known as Sun City due to its sunny weather. It is also known as blue city because of the blue houses painted in indigo around Mehrangarh Fort. It lies in the geographical Centre of Rajasthan, now the cities have extended its place.

Wool and agricultural products also have market values here. Indian air force, Indian army, Indo Tibetan border Police, and the border security force have base camps here that provide good training. It has also become a major educational hub in India for higher studies.

Jodhpur is known as a vibrant tourist place. Mehrangarh Fort, Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jaswant Thada, and Ghanta Gar are the major places here. Mandore, Kaylana Lake and garden, Balsamand Lake, Sardar Samant Lake and Palace, Masooria Hill, Veer Durgas smarak, Dhawa forest area, Kilichan, Osian, and Nakoda ji are the other must visit places in and around Jodhpur. In the Mehrangarh palace, many highlights are there which include, Moti Mahal or pearl hall, Sheesh Mahal (mirror hall), Phool Mahal or flower hall, Zenana Deodi, and Chamunda Mataji temple. The museums there include, howdas, palanquins, fine arts, weaponry and turban gallery.

The people of Jodhpur celebrate number of festivals, like Marwar festival, Gangaur, Teej, Nag Panchami fair, Mahavir Jayanti, and Shietla Mata. Makhaniya Lassi, Mawa Kachori, hot and spicy mirchibada, Panchkuta, and Lapsi are the major and unique cuisines here. There are number of hotels and restaurants ranging from luxurious to economical are available for the tourists.

The city is well connected by roads, rails and air. Jodhpur is 453 km from Ahmedabad. By railway it is connected to all the major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Trivandrum, Kota, Kanpur, Bareilly, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Indore, Guwahati, Nagpur, Lucknow, and Jaipur. Jodhpur airport is one of the major airports of western India. Air force base is present here. Indian airlines and jet airways have services here.

Most of the hotels in Jodhpur near railway station also offers facilities for sightseeing expedition and jungle safaris, apart from pick-up and drop facilities from the various transit points.
