FULLERTON - California High School's Aaron Garcia did it all in lifting the Condors to a nonleague 16-7 victory over Troy on Thursday at Fullerton High.
Garcia ran for a game-high 127 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries.
With 9:02 remaining in the fourth quarter, he scored on a 9-yard run that allowed the Condors to seize control.
Troy then drove to California's 1-yard line. The Warriors, however, made an errant snap and California's Kevin McIntosh recovered to end the threat.
After forcing a Condors fumble, Troy regained possession and attempted one last comeback. Garcia, however, secured the victory when he intercepted a Kyle Blumer pass and returned it to the Condors' 36-yard line.
California quarterback Drew Castro added 93 yards for the Condors, who improved to 2-0.
The Condors regained the lead at 9-7 when Eric Amezquita connected on a 20-yard field goal that came with 2:10 remaining in the third quarter. It was Amezquita's third field goal. The score was set up by a Troy turnover.
Troy (1-1) took a 7-6 halftime lead on the strength of Dallas Parent's 52-yard touchdown run with 8:35 remaining in the second quarter.
Parent finished with 74 yards rushing in the first half.
California
was threatening to retake the lead as it moved the ball to the Warriors' 8-yard line. The Condors, however, lost a fumble.The Condors took a 6-0 lead with two Amezquita field goals.
He accounted for the game's first points when he connected on a 40-yard field goal with 6:31 remaining in the first quarter.
Amezquita then kicked a 24-yarder that increased the Condors' lead.
Garcia led the Condors in first-half rushing with 53 yards on 10 carries.
