6 Top Tips for Getting a Fast Promotion ?

Getting a well-deserved promotion is one of the best feelings imaginable in a company. It?s an achievement to be proud of, and it often comes with its own new territory and responsibility. With that said, many workers struggle with getting promoted at all, let alone quickly. The truth is that a promotion can be quite easy to obtain in most jobs with the right approach. Many employees will find themselves working based on their salary or wages without ever understanding that it is themselves they must be working on.

1. Build a Strong Network Within the Company

Humans are a notoriously social creature. Without leadership, teamwork and strong social bonds, most of the technology and infrastructure of our world would be nonexistent. It?s absolutely critical to take this mentality into the workplace.

First and foremost, it is important to understand who is running what. There is no CEO that does everything (though there?are?some CEOs that do nothing). The people in charge of different aspects of the company are often the most knowledgeable and skilled in their department. These are the people that an employee should be communicating and learning from regularly, without getting in their way or otherwise obstructing business. If these people are not knowledgeable or skilled, it means that there?s a much easier promotion to be earned by eclipsing their position, but that?ll require a bit more of a dog-eat-dog attitude.

Once that?s been settled, it?s important to know who the big producers are and?why?they?re big producers. What is it that makes them so special? Is it their attitude in the business or is it their total output? Why is their leader in a higher-paid position than them?

2. Ask for Help & Help Others!

With a better understanding of the key leaders and team members, the next step becomes much much easier. When a specific problem arises, a strong network will fuel the exchange of help throughout the company. Remember, the company cannot function to its maximum potential without teamwork, leadership and social bonds. When all of these are in place, it makes it much easier to openly communicate and grow rapidly.

Imagine two employees that both begin working on day one. Employee A goes out of their way to talk to everyone that they see, regardless of whether its awkward or uncomfortable. Employee B simply begins to practice their job. While employee A will begin to understand the nature of the company, employee B will simply become better at their job. Employee A will then have the benefit of knowing exactly who to turn to when they don?t know how to do something or have a suggestion that will make everyone?s life easier. Employee B will have to figure out problems as they arise, without a confident understanding of who is the best-suited teammate to help.

It is also pivotal to contribute something to the company. Something as simple as offering to get someone coffee or regularly asking other employees if they need other help can go a surprisingly long way in terms of social-bonding. Friendly coworkers are much more likely to recommend or agree with promotion opportunities.

3. Be Professional, Inside and Out
Stepping up the level of professionalism in the job is the next tip for getting a fast promotion. There are a few easy ways to do this:

?

  • Dress like a professional. This not only improves first impressions, but it also brings the added benefit of looking great at work. A great guideline is to dress nice enough to stand out, but proper enough to fit in.

?

  • Act like a professional. If it isn?t important, don?t worry about it. If it?s important, make time for it. If there?s an opportunity to shine, take it without hesitation.

?

  • Invest in leadership qualities. Any decision that improves leadership skills is a powerful investment of time.

?

  • Stay humble. Every day is an opportunity to learn and produce as much as the day before it.

?

4. Bring Value to the Table

Bringing value is all about contribution. Contribute any simple ideas or insights that may help the company and never be afraid to be the fool. It is sad to see able-minded individuals repress their own intelligence out of fear that it won?t be good enough or that it will sound dumb. If it sounds good, say it. If it was wrong, learn quickly and move on without getting emotionally attached to the idea. Remember to respect the knowledge and skills of the other workers that have put in time and diligence towards their job, but also remember that a promotion is a reflection of excellence.

5. Exceed Expectations

The most positive feature that an employee can have is being an over-producer. An over-producer puts a huge amount of value into the company and allows employment, management and training to be much more flexible. When finances are tight in a sales position, an over-producer is often the backbone of the team and the most relied on individual. When productivity is down in an office, an over-producer is what makes tomorrow possible.

In regards to a promotion, being an over-producer is the easiest way to get promoted to a training manager. Smart leaders know that over-producers are more likely to teach others how to be over-producers.

6. Self-Investment is the Best Investment

Self-investment is a delicate art. To be able to stand in front of a mirror and choose a flaw to destroy or a strength to supplement takes a person of character. To spend time reading a checklist of things to do to get a quick promotion instead of watching T.V. and getting drunk is a sign of someone that is already on their way to advancing.

Below are a list of final tips that?ll help speed up the process. Thanks for reading!

?

  • Read books with the intention of understanding them. Make sure that they?re in some way related to your field, though.

?

  • Search for videos about leadership, strategy, profit, sales, teamwork and efficiency.

?

  • Commit to self-improvement and track your progress. Write down what skill level you are at today and monitor it for 7 days in a row. Could you have grown faster? Did you grow at all?

?

  • Remember that not everything is in your control. You didn?t decide which hospital to be born in, and you can?t decide whether or not Mary will be out sick on Tuesday with the Flu virus. Never take these circumstances to heart.
