Suffolk Downs has released artist renderings and this video for its planned Suffolk Downs Casino with partner, Caesar?s Entertainment. The $1 billion ?Resort at Suffolk Downs? would have 300 hotel rooms, up to 10 restaurants, approx. 200,000 square feet of gaming space, up to 5,000 slot machines and 200 table games, a poker room along with garage and surface parking.
In the video, I noted at least two North End scenes (1:20 and 2:25). The design is by Boston architect David Manfredi of Elkus Manfredi Architects. The organization also plans to expand its horse racing operations at the site. See more at the promotional website.
Suffolk Downs is vying for the one of three casino licenses up for grabs in Massachusetts and the only one legislated for eastern Massachusetts. Suffolk Downs is competing against one other casino project vying for the eastern license from Milford.
Local North End / Waterfront politicians have generally come out in favor of the East Boston / Revere casino project, including State Sen. Anthony Petruccelli, State Rep. Aaron Michlewitz, Boston Mayor Tom Menino and District 1 City Councilor Sal LaMattina. On the flip side, a group has been organized as ?No Eastie Casino? to oppose the project.
