Tornado-ravaged St. Louis terminal to reopen?

Officials at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport say they hope to reopen the tornado-damaged Concourse C this April, The Associated Press reports.

The concourse was closed after it suffered heavy damage in the "Good Friday" tornado on April 22. No one was seriously hurt in the storm, but the EF-4 tornado caused extensive damage at the airport -- especially Concourse C. That forced several airlines ? including American and AirTran ? to relocate to gates in the previously vacant B and D concourses.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch writes "the tornado also broke numerous windows on the main terminal building, which remained boarded up for months. The tornado also damaged cars that were parked on the top level of the Terminal 1 hourly parking garage."

As for the projected April reopening of Concourse C, Lambert airport director Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge on Wednesday told airport commissioners that the facility's restrooms have been renovated and that its storm-damaged windows have been replaced, according to the Post-Dispatch.

Hamm-Niebruegge says the repairs are being made in tandem with planned renovations that include new ceilings and lighting.
