Enjoy a stately break with maven of the Antiques Roadshow ...

A national newspaper is offering the chance to explore the Victorian mahogany pedestal desks and antique cabinets of some of England?s most magnificent stately homes ? with talks by Antiques Roadshow expert Lars Tharp thrown in.

The Daily Mail has arranged an exclusive spring break visiting the stately homes of Leicestershire and Warwickshire in the company of TV ceramics expert Lars Tharp. Staying at the historic Sketchley Grange Hotel, the holiday will be of interest to anyone with a passion for Restoration antique dining chairs and early Victorian oak partners desks , with Preston and the Ribble Valley just a little more than a two hour?s drive away.

The weekend kicks off with Lars giving an illustrated talk on collecting ceramics, followed by a private dinner at the Grange. The second day attention switches to the antique dining chairs of Arbury Hall, a beautiful Elizabethan dwelling with Early Gothic Revival interiors. In the afternoon, guests from Lancashire will see the Open Bookcases and antique marquetry furniture of Stoneleigh Abbey, which was the country seat of Jane Austen?s maternal family.

Later on, the group will be whisked off to the equally stately Stanford Hall, to enjoy a private dinner with Lars, who will chat about his Antiques Roadshow experiences. The final day will be spent at Burghley House, where even the finest antique balloon back dining chair is eclipsed by the magnificent painted ceilings and wall murals.

Back in Preston, one can find a Victorian balloon back dining chair the equal of any stately home by visiting an antique dealer.
