CHICAGO ? A 38-year-old man is going to prison for trying to illegally export missiles parts to Iran from the United States.
Davoud Baniameri (dah-VOOD' BAH'-nah-mar-ree) was sentenced to 51 months, or around four years. He's an Iranian citizen and legal U.S. resident who lived in Woodland Hills, Calif.
Baniameri pleaded guilty in May. He was sentenced Friday in Chicago.
Prosecutors say Baniameri attempted to buy parts from an Illinois company that was controlled by law enforcement and that he planned to ship the parts to Iran.
Baniameri was arrested in 2009. Two other men have been charged in connection with the plan.
U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald says Baniameri endangered the national security of the U.S.
Defense attorney Thomas Brandstrader says his client is disappointed. He was hoping for a lighter sentence.
